With the current situation and due to the flight restrictions into the US, it is with deep sadness Hemel Storm Basketball have had to make the tough decision to fly their two Americans Greg Poleon and Mike Williams home so they are safe and back with their families.
This is following Basketball England’s decision to suspend all affiliated basketball activity for an initial two-week period from 14th March 2020 because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Greg and Mike have had a huge impact on the Club both on and off the court. During their time in the UK they have contributed to a team who currently sit in the top four of the league and have entertained capacity crowds at Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre. They have also been heavily involved in Storm’s Community Programme which has seen them go into many local schools providing coaching to the pupils.
Storm’s Chairman Tony Humphrey “We have made the right decision for Mike and Greg but it’s a real sad one for everyone concerned. However, let’s celebrate the impact these guys have had. I can't thank them enough for their tireless commitment to our local schools coaching programme and for driving us to one of the most successful seasons we have ever had. We just want them home safe and well and to wish them the very best of everything.
We await Basketball England’s decision on the rest of the season and will inform fans what happens next as soon as we can.
