Hemel Storm II 70 – Essex Rebels II 93
(Division Three)
Hemel Storm II, sponsored by Certa Group Ltd, lost their final league game of the season at home to Essex Rebels on Sunday.
Although going down early in the game by 10-2 Hemel responded strongly to close the quarter with a three point deficit at 23-20. Storm continued their momentum and edged into the lead half way through the second period. However a ‘buzzer-beater’ from the visitors gave them back a one point lead to end a pulsating first half.
The second half could not have been more different. Hemel ran out of ideas offensively scoring only 10 points in the third quarter. Turnovers and missed shots from the home team resulted in numerous fast break points from Rebels as they took control of the game and closed out a comfortable win.
Coach Allin said: “I think this game summed up our season. At times we play some excellent basketball and can compete with anyone in the league but we’re unable to sustain it for long periods. But we’ve learned a lot and will make improvements for next season.”
