Hemel Storm II 70 – Northamptonshire Titans 107

 (Division Three)

Hemel Storm’s second team were unable to overcome the size and athleticism of league leaders Northamptonshire Titans in their National League Division 3 matchup on Sunday.

The visitors set the tone for the game in the first 3 minutes with fast breaks and strong moves around the basket taking them to an early 11-1 lead.  It was already looking like Storm were in for a long, tough evening but some lightning quick offensive moves from guard Atif Khan helped Hemel to a respectable 4 point deficit at the end of the quarter at 21-25.

The second quarter was almost a replica of the first.  The Titans seized the initiative early and took an 11 point lead but Hemel fought back again to reduce the margin to 7.

Hemel were unable to maintain their performance in the third quarter as Northants piled in 33 points to Storm’s 3 which set them up for a convincing 37 point win.

Coach Allin said: “Titans are clearly the best team in our league and we were no match for them over the 40 minutes.  But we have several positives to take from the game.  In the first half we played some of our best offence so far this season and we had fine individual performances from Atif Khan and Jamie Wheeler.”

Leading Scorers:

Nick Allin 14, Jamie Wheeler 13, Atif Kahn 13, Daryl Craine 12
