Hemel Storm Women 57-51 Thames Valley Cavaliers II
WNBL Division Two
Hemel Storm Women got their second win of the season last weekend at home against Thames Valley Cavaliers II. Both teams showed defensive prowess with a total of 13 steals from Storm and 4 Steals from TVC. TVC won an impressive tip and started the game on an easy lay-up. But Storm responded strongly and finished the quarter 16 – 9.
The second quarter saw Storm excelling in their offensive rebounds, making their chance of a second shot much higher. Emily Taylor scored an impressive 15 points in the first half, increasing the lead to 34 – 22.
In the third quarter, Storm dominated the play, but were unable to convert their shots into made baskets and so did not capitalise on their many scoring opportunities. TVC dug their heels in and increased their defensive intensity. TVC outscored Storm making 17 points, closing the gap to a score of 44 – 39.
The fourth quarter began how the third quarter ended with a strong presence from the Storm defence. With the game tied at 48 – 48, Storm stepped up their game making it almost impossible for TVC to score. Determined not to let TVC win, Storm’s impressive communication in the last 5 minutes of the game saw Fego Lewis score a much needed 3 point shot on the shot clock buzzer to secure the lead, with the game ending 57-51.
